Our Lady of Mount Caritas

Our Lady of
Mount Caritas

Our Lady of Mount Caritas Monastery was so named and dedicated to Our Blessed Mother to truly seek her guidance, her protection, and the warmth of her presence and love through the grace of her son. It has not been uncommon in the past nor in the present for Benedictine Communities to dedicate their houses to Our Lady. Many various communities and orders wish to honor her in this way.

The word Caritas (pronounced Car-ee-tas) is taken from the Latin meaning affection, love, esteem, that which is very dear and very costly (not always in a material sense). We at Our Lady of Mount Caritas Monastery strive to foster community in the deepest sense, to live as Our Holy Father Benedict prescribes; to pray and to work and to find that necessary balance so essential to make our lives and mission viable not only to ourselves but to the Church and our surrounding communities. To choose community (lay or religious) means to find one's self, to love self and then offer this self to others. Our Blessed Mother is total gift, total example. She offers her inner strength, her love and compassion, and that very simple unwavering faith. Not unlike ourselves, she waited and hoped and loved, suffered confusion and pain, but always returned to that simple truth; Faith.
